Austin Mics Workshop
DIY Ribbon Microphone Workshop
Saturday, May 4, Miramar College. 10am – 5pm.
REGISTRATION HAS NOW CLOSED FOR THIS WORKSHOP
Join us at Miramar College for the DIY Ribbon Microphone Building Workshop. Saturday, May 4, 10am – 5pm. Students will spend the day building their own Austin Ribbon Microphone (www.AustinMics.com). The event is hosted by the Miramar College and City College Music Production programs, and sponsored by Austin Ribbon Microphones and AES San Diego.
At this hands-on workshop, you will bend the metal mesh windscreen into shape, cut and corrugate thin ribbon foil, and solder the electronics together to produce a hand-built, heirloom recording tool that you will be proud to own and use for decades. Tools and instructors will be there to help everyone build the mic according to the plans and videos below.
This is the same workshop that is held at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, UNLV, the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in AZ, and many others. Discounted for students, faculty, and AES Members to $299. ($349 for Professionals – Paying a little more as a professional keeps the pricing affordable for students.)
This is an intermediate-level class. Previous experience soldering and using hand tools is great, and we will call on your experience during class. If you are new to Do-It-Yourself audio, instructors, videos and printed plans will guide everyone through each step. Everyone leaves with a working microphone!
